Will karate guarantee my safety in a bad situation?

No, it will not. Bad people sometimes have guns and other types of weapons they might use against you. Karate helps you but not in such a specific way. Great karate instructors have been asked how they have dealt with violence and conflict and the common wise response that comes is that they simply avoid violent places and situations. They don't become contestants in Ultimate Fighting Tournaments. They never antagonize other people, if a conflict arises then you must find a respectable way out for both people..

Karate training can help you deal with a surprise situation in which someone behind a bush might suddenly pounce on you. You might be able to use a short quick technique to break free. You might be able to seriously injure the other person. You might even kill that other person. The best thing that you can do when it comes to a violent attack is run. Unless you are defending as our school creed states; my life, my family, or my country or a child or someone who cannot escape with you that is the best defense. Get away. Your training may not be sufficient to help you escape from such a terrible encounter. Your size, age, weight, and reflexes are all variables. Karate teachers should never guarantee you anything when it comes to self-defense. To do so is a terrible thing because it may give a student a false sense of security, which is very different than self-confidence, and puts that person in physical danger. There aren't any guarantees in karate, only ways to improve the odds of survival.
